It’s all over the net but I figured I would post it here too. If you have a fat PS3, DON’T turn it on unless you like your system breaking. In which case feel free to turn it on and enjoy the no-show of games crashing, files corrupting, PSN errors, and your system basically being a 10lb brick. Sony said that all of the errors relate to the systems internal clock (Sony…how the hell did you fail to test THE FUCKING CLOCK before the system shipped?), and that they have their engineers working as quickly as possible on a fix, which should be available on Tuesday. Unless you live in a time...

PC Games Hardware has put the Starcraft 2 Beta to the test and discovered one thing: It’s a real CPU hog. This game makes Supreme Commander benchmarks look reasonable. PCGH tested it at 1680 x 1050 with 1X Anti-Aliasing with a near top-of-the-line ATI 5870 GPU and discovered that anything short of a Core2 at 2.4GHZ is going to be a slide show.
I think the big question everyone needs to ask is: Why?! SC2’s graphics aren’t even that good! I mean there not bad looking, but they aren’t great either. They look akin to a good Xbox 360 game at best. There aren’t billions of...

I am beginning to believe that Square simply doesn’t understand its audience. Case in point is that Square’s Tetsuya Nomura told Famitsu that while he is aware that fans are looking forward to a Final Fantasy 7 remake, he doesn’t believe it will happen for the time being. When I read that, it took a moment to process as the sheer stupidity of the statement from both a gamer and fiscal viewpoint is astounding. I can’t help but wonder if Nomura is suffering from some sort of dementia, where he believes that his viewpoint is the only one that matters....

Wow. That was a long title. European publisher Rising Star has announced that they will publish the latest 3D Samurai Shodown in Europe on the XBOX 360. Released on the same Taito Type X2 arcade board that powers Street Fighter 4, the game uses a 2.5D style gaming. It was designed by the team behind Samurai Spirits (Samurai Showdown 64 in the USA). ...

Square has let slip some screen shots via Facebook of it’s upcoming ports of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy 2 for the iPhone. The good news is that they aren’t just hack job ports if the shots are to be believed. The interfaces has been completely revamped to support the iPhones touch interfaces, and the graphics are a fare bit nicer looking then their 8 bit originals. Perhaps this is Square’s way of apologizing for their horrid FF13. No release date or pricing have been announced yet.

Uncharted 2 is a game changer. Not for the gameplay and story, which are great, but for the way it uses the PS3’s Cell Processor.
With the Playstation 3, Sony can be congratulated for creating perhaps one of, if not the most, complicated console to program for all time (Saturn might still be worse). At the heart of the problem is the CELL processor; a chip so different then anything else out there that even its creators had difficulty programming for it. Ken Kutaragi, the father of the PS3, tasked IBM with creating something completely different then any previous processor. Roughly $400 Million...

Okay. Straight up I don’t like Steam. In fact, I hate Steam. However, if your not opposed to it’s oppressive DRM, ridiculous interface, and crappy CPU hogging software, then by all means launch it and check out their store. Right now, they numerous deals going on. I, shockingly, bought Ghost Busters for $7. I was thinking about getting it for my PS3 or 360, but since the Steam version is the same price as a rental, I figured I would get it for the PC. Other deals include games from Atari, Square, and Codemasters.
UPDATE: Well, I paid my $7 for Ghost Busters and can’t play it. Why?...

Just wanted to let everyone know that the lack of updates is not because of lost interest or anything like TGW going down. Simply, I’m on vacation. However, I’m planning a number of reviews and updates when everything starts back up again on January 1st. For reviews, look forward to a review of GOG (Good Old Games) and Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers. I’m also planning some pretty cool historical articles focusing on older gaming systems, as well as an article on making a HTPC gaming computer. Of course, News That Matters will continue to be updated as I find news that’s...

GOG, aka Good Old Games, is having a massive holiday sale. For those that don’t know, GOG sales DRM free versions of classic games like Descent, Duke Nukem 3D, and MDK optimized to run on modern computers. I’ve personally bought five games from them and it’s been well worth the paltry amount of pennies I’ve paid. I’m still playing through Shogo as I write this. Check out the sale here.
Check out my current virtual shelf from GOG. Deals were too good to pass up. Guess I own more then 5 now!...
