BLOG: Console PCs

It’s funny. I have been working on an extensive article on how to build your own console like PC and then Alienware beats me to the punch. Well, kinda of sort of. If you read this Maximum PC article, it goes into depth about the Alienware X51. It’s a small PC using desktop level parts instead of standard notebook. It’s built off an ITX platform with a desktop GPU card, and an external power supply. The neat thing is that it gives you pretty good 720P gaming specs while only taking up the space of about an original Xbox 360. Alienware even believes that you’ll be able to get...

BLOG: ITX Gaming

I’m a big fan of the ITX form factor. It’s almost perfect for building a mini gaming PC, and I have a big article about doing so coming up. I stumbled upon a great up and coming site that focuses on ITX PC gaming and just wanted to post it out there.  It’s ITXGAMER.COM . It’s not a giant site yet, but it definitely yields some great info for anyone looking to build an ITX based system. Check it...

BLOG: Finally I Can Hear Dolby Digital Live on my X-Fi HD!

This took me hours to figure out, and I almost ripped the damn sound card out of my system…. Let me start at the beginning. I recently built a new computer to play BF3. It’s a monster Sandy Bridge 2600k overclocked to 4.7GHZ with two GeForce 570s in SLi. For audio, I went with a Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD because I wanted crystal clear Dolby Digital Live support. Dolby Digital Live and my Z-5500s really bring Battle Field 3 to life. Well, it didn’t work. There was no sound at all in DDL (Dolby Digital Live) mode. I went through setting after setting, reinstall after...

BLOG: Thoughts in Five Minutes or Less

Basically I’m giving myself five minutes to write this. I have to be up early…way early…but still had the writing bug. Something that’s been lacking as of late. So here we go. Limbo… I’ve been playing it and haven’t figured out what to think about it yet. Yes, I’m a bit late to the party, but it’s better late than never. Still the game, which is a platform puzzle game at heart, seems to polorize the crowds. Graphically, it was amazing at first to me, but towards the later chapters it gets tiresome. Feels like the game should be getting brighter or...

BLOG: Nice Surprise…

After pulling up to my home, eyes barely open after a 3rd day of little sleep and hard work, I was pleasantly surprised to find Amazon had left a little gift for me. By gift I mean box. And I also mean that they delivered it to me…because I payed for it. Yeah. No freebies here. But I digress. The box contained non other then my case and PSU for the Silverstone build I’m doing. It’s a tiny little SUGO SG05 in black. I only had time to snap a few photos, but the case seems to feel much better then my latest Lian Li endeavors. Check out the gallery below for a few beauty...

REVIEW: Lian Li Lancool PC-K7B Case

Lian Li was, in all respects, a pioneer of aluminum cases. I used them for years, and while their aluminum cases never actually helped cool the system any better than steel or plastic, they looked awesome, and the build quality was excellent. The Lian Li Lancool PC-K7B is a new generation case retailing for about $90 to $100. Right away, there is a problem. The case isn’t on the Lian Li website. In fact, it’s on it’s own dedicated website called Lancoolpc.com. This wouldn’t be  such a bad thing if it wasn’t filled with such “Engrish” gems...

BLOG: The Return of the Blog.

Lot’s happened lately. Battlefield 3 was released in an, admittedly, much better form then the BETA. I had plenty of time to play since I’ve been laid up from back surgery. I’ve also set up my old school game room, built a Home Theater PC, set up a Windows Home Server 2011 system, and have begun work on an ultra tiny min-ITX system based on Silverstone’s tiny Sugo SG05 using virtually nothing but left over parts. Should be fun. I was inspired by the awesomeness of Geekbox’s Prodigy computer. Geekbox has been showing up a lot lately, and after chatting with one of the...

EDITORIAL: The Battlefield 3 Effect…

Okay. The BF3 BETA is over but I find myself desperate for some sort of action like it. BF2 isn’t quite right. I, against better judgement, break out Modern Warfare 2 and head to the multiplayer. I’m quickly reminded of how much better BF3 is. MW2 multiplayer is crap. I’ve said it since day one. I played over 60 hours to justify my point of view.  I’ll keep on saying it. It’s a twitch fest with piss poor level design programmed by people who hate slow campers, aka realistic play. You shoot one enemy five times and he keeps on moving like the T-1000, and you shoot another...

BLOG: AMD Bulldozer, Apple Consoles, and a New Wii.

If you might have noticed, I’ve been playing with the site design a bit. Well, actually more like the features. Saulot is going to help me get a few things fixed that need to be fixed, but otherwise, I’m pretty happy with it. It’s a low maintenance theme that doesn’t really require much work on my end to get material out. Maybe, if TGW ever develops a writing staff, then I might change up the theme a bit. At the very least, I need to take the Christmas lights down before Halloween. On to the blog… AMD released their newest CPU… and it sucks. ...

EDITORIAL: Battlefield 3 BETA Leaves Little Hope…

Battlefield 3’s BETA has come to an end and I’m left with mixed feelings. Actually, my feelings aren’t mixed. I’m angry. ...
